LNP looks to capitalise on surging Queensland crime rates

Assault rates in Queensland have more than doubled in four years, new police data shows, as the state’s opposition party prepares to campaign heavily on the issue all the way to the October election.

Queensland Premier Steven Miles insisted in January crime was not “clearly worsening”, pointing to signs of reductions in certain regional areas, but police data suggests little change to assault rates in February while the rate of sexual offences increased.
