Shallow thinking and poor analysis from Steven Hamilton (“JobKeeper was a big call to make, and our leaders got it right”, March 30). Some $120 billion was outlaid on tax-free cash flow boost (without any hardship criteria) and JobKeeper payments.
Based on comparisons with New Zealand’s payments per worker and the average of more sensible and targeted JobKeeper payments in the last six months of the scheme’s operation, the correct amount of stimulus in Australia would have been $40 billion.
