History shows that for a referendum to succeed in Australia, the question and drafting must be very clear and simple, and must have broad community support.
With lots of heavyweight lawyers (including Bret Walker, Louise Clegg and Frank Brennan) already weighing in on different sides of the fence (“Top silk Bret Walker attacks ‘doomsday’ take on Voice”, March 11-12), the current approach taken by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese does not satisfy this “very clear and simple” requirement.
