Anton Tagliaferro says you can’t throw soccer into the hooligan category because of the actions of one group of hotheads (“Safe in Qatar, fearful of soccer ‘hotheads’ here”, December 20). His view is wrong.

As a life-long rugby league supporter, I was shocked at the abusive, threatening and violent people around me on the one occasion I took my then-young son and elderly father to an A-League game.
