Letters: Budgets and a need for balance
You have been running articles critical of Victoria’s finances including a reference to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ “crippled budget” (“Victoria’s crippled finances are all Daniel Andrews’ fault”, April 11).
Yes, there is a headline cash deficit of $13 billion, but if you calculate the “underlying cash balance” like the federal budget papers do, then there is a modest surplus of $1.3 billion. The difference is removing the disposals and acquisitions of non-financial assets.
