Labor’s environmental promise sleeps with the fishes

Labor went to the last election talking big on the environment, but political reality has got in the way.

Less than 24 hours before Australia went to the polls on May 21, 2022, the-then Labor opposition promised that if elected, it would establish an independent environment protection agency.

The agency would enforce national conservation laws, in the form of a revamped Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, and collect data on the plight of the country’s wildlife.
