Labor plays down call to break up ASIC, talks up whistleblower rewards

Labor frontbencher Andrew Leigh has played down calls for the Albanese government to break up the corporate watchdog after a scathing review of the agency accused it of fundamentally failing investors.
But Dr Leigh, an assistant treasury minister, spoke positively about calls to create financial rewards for whistleblowers who report wrongdoing in the corporate sector, similar to the United States.
