Labor opposes Andrew Shearer as top spook

Federal Labor has sent the government a warning that it would not support Andrew Shearer replacing Nick Warner as the head of the Office of National Intelligence (ONI), as is rumoured, on the basis that it would be too political.
Mr Shearer, a foreign policy and national security expert, was recently appointed by Prime Minister Scott Morrison to serve as cabinet secretary, after previously working at ONI as deputy director-general.
