McCormack hospitalised after drinking entire bowl of kava

Former deputy prime minister Michael McCormack says he was trying not to be disrespectful when he drank a whole bowl of kava and had to be taken to hospital, disrupting a bipartisan visit to the Pacific.
Mr McCormack became ill on Wednesday during a visit to the Federated States of Micronesia with Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Pacific Minister Pat Conroy, opposition foreign affairs spokesman Simon Birmingham and Australian officials.
