Hate laws ‘patchwork’ needs urgent reform: antisemitism envoy

A patchwork of anti-hate laws around the country is weakening efforts to stamp out attacks on Australia’s Jewish community, the Albanese government’s special envoy says.
Jillian Segal – appointed in July as Australia’s envoy to combat antisemitism – said better consistency is needed between federal, state and territory laws, and a program of reform should include tougher punishment for offenders.
