Fatima Payman had a promising future ahead of her as Labor politician. She says her conscience left her no choice but to quit, but Labor insiders are ropeable over the betrayal.

In putting principles over political loyalty, Fatima Payman has abandoned a promising parliamentary career with the Labor Party.
Although there has been commentary that Payman – with 1681 primary votes – was an accidental senator who won her seat thanks only to the popularity of then premier Mark McGowan, within party circles she was seen as a rising star.
