A further wave of detainees could be released from immigration detention centres with the Albanese government bracing for several years of High Court litigation that threatens to curb ministerial powers.

With Labor under political pressure over its management of violent criminals whom the High Court ordered out of detention last year, the government will begin publishing monthly reports on people released, including their visa conditions and use of electronic monitoring and curfews.
