Former Channel Seven broadcaster and Perth lord mayor Basil Zempilas will become the next leader of the West Australian Liberals, promising to reinvigorate and rebuild the party after a disastrous election loss.

Zempilas was unanimously endorsed by the WA Liberal party room meeting after running unopposed on Tuesday morning, with former leader Libby Mettam appointed deputy.
