Former federal health minister Greg Hunt has criticised the Albanese government for trying to shield the states from the inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic, after the probe echoed his own concerns over the unilateral actions of the premiers.
Mr Hunt, who played a pivotal role in the national pandemic response, was also critical that the current government had largely escaped any sanction, when COVID-19-related deaths had skyrocketed under its watch.
