Federal elections are usually remembered as contests between prime ministers and opposition leaders, like Keating versus Howard, or Morrison up against Albanese.

But Greens leader Adam Bandt has as much to lose as anyone next year. Thanks to the party’s record performance three years ago – the so-called “Greenslide” in Queensland – Bandt and his MPs have more influence than ever in federal parliament.
