Dutton will be Liberal leader without having to look over his shoulder
As devastating as Josh Frydenberg’s loss was for the Liberal Party, there is one silver lining: it will give Peter Dutton clear air to rebuild the party without having to worry about a popular alternative breathing down his neck in the short term.
When Brendan Nelson became leader after the Liberals 2007 election loss, he had to look over his shoulder at Malcolm Turnbull. Nelson was mown down less than a year later.
