Dutton recommits to lower taxes, blames poll slump on smear campaign

Peter Dutton has assured his restive backbench that he remains committed to cutting taxes, as he attributed the recent slump in his personal ratings to a smear campaign by Labor.

Speaking to reporters after the latest The Australian Financial Review/Freshwater Strategy poll showed his net approval rating had fallen for a second successive month, and he had slipped behind Anthony Albanese as preferred prime minister, the opposition leader said he would not be changing course.
