Donaghue shocks dinner with ‘political’ speech
The Commonwealth solicitor-general weighed in to the Voice debate at the Victorian Bar dinner.
Solicitor-General Stephen Donaghue, KC, got mixed reviews for his speech at the 2023 Victorian Bar dinner after he waded into the controversy over the Indigenous Voice to parliament referendum.
The government’s chief legal adviser told the shindig at Melbourne’s Plaza Ballroom on May 26 there was “nothing wrong” with lawyers playing a role in the increasingly fractious public debate.
