Don’t trade free speech for iron ore, jailed HK mogul’s son warns

Australia should not put trade ahead of criticising Chinese human rights abuses and its crackdown on dissidents, the son of jailed Hong Kong pro-democracy media proprietor Jimmy Lai says.

Sebastien Lai urged the Albanese government to join other Western nations to take up the case of his father, whose Apple Daily newspaper has been shut down in the face of Chinese pressure.
