Former NSW premier and treasurer Dominic Perrottet will quit politics and move to the United States within weeks to take up a senior position with mining giant BHP in Washington.

The 41-year-old Liberal MP announced his resignation on Friday afternoon and is expected to be announced as BHP’s new US head of corporate and external affairs.
