Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas ignored a confidential warning from his own department two years ago that the state’s financial management framework was 30 years out of date and would lead to budget blowouts and financial crisis.

The Allan Labor government has yet to update the framework, but it did introduce new laws on “gender-responsive budgeting” to make sure that “the [gender] impacts of our decisions are taken into account at every stage of the budget process”.
