The prime minister praised independent MP Allegra Spender during a speech commemorating the six people who died at a Sydney shopping centre last month.
It was one of those rare moments when politics seemed truly admirable.
On the left side of the house, the prime minister was solemn without being mawkish. On the right, the leader of the opposition celebrated bravery without glorifying it.
