• Energy has become a ‘national liability’: Former Reserve Bank Governor Phillip Lowe says the rising cost of energy in Australia has become a national liability, as he poured cold water on proposals to import LNG to solve forecast gas shortfalls.

• Minns ‘disappointed’ if turf club votes to keep Rosehill racecourse: NSW Premier Chris Minns has spoken to ABC Sydney ahead of the Australian Turf Club vote this afternoon on whether to sell the Rosehill racecourse site to the government to allow construction of 25,000 homes and a new metro station.

• Labor should consider targeted sanctions against Israel: Labor backbencher Ed Husic has speculated that the government is “drawing up a list of targeted sanctions” to impose on Israel and has called on his own party to do more amid the aid crisis in Gaza.

• Police not treating Liverpool crash as terrorism: Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims says police believe a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was the driver of the car that ploughed into the parade, and they are not treating it as terrorism.
