The Albanese government expects to save more than $60 billion over the next decade by cutting the growth rate of the “unsustainable” National Disability Insurance Scheme by almost half within three years, and pushing it lower after that.
Conceding that Labor’s signature social reform could collapse unless reined in, Anthony Albanese won the support of national cabinet on Friday to reduce the growth rate of the scheme from the current 13.8 per cent to 8 per cent by July 1, 2026.
