The number of federal bureaucrats has jumped nearly 10 per cent in one year alone – to 209,150 – and some 25 per cent since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Figures contained in the budget show the impact of the government’s move to reduce the public sector’s reliance on expensive contractors and consultants. Some 2500 positions will come from replacing contractors, on top of the 3314 conversions this year.
