Companies at risk of ‘state-sponsored greenwashing’, Senate told

Some of Australia’s biggest companies may be engaging in “state-sponsored greenwashing” by using a government-backed climate action scheme to certify their carbon neutrality credentials despite significant issues with the scheme.

A Senate inquiry into greenwashing heard on Monday that the consumer watchdog had not yet signed off on the federal government’s Climate Active carbon neutrality certification even though more than 500 companies already used it because of confusion around its rules.
