Grant King’s Climate Change Authority has been formally tasked by the Morrison government with reviewing imports of potentially dubious international carbon credits amid a surge in corporate demand for the offsets.

Pressure is building on Australian companies to voluntarily purchase carbon credits from abroad, not least after the UN climate talks in Glasgow clarified rules around their use and trade across borders, and because of a relative shortage of government-regulated domestic Australian Carbon Credit Units, or ACCUs.
