Treasurer Jim Chalmers has pushed back against state squabbling over GST distribution, saying tax reform must be in the national interest, on the same day his Queensland counterpart said he would not stop “carrying on” to get his state a better deal.
Chalmers this month pledged to lead an overhaul of Australia’s tax system aimed at lowering the burden on workers while raising other taxes to help plug the federal budget deficit.
