Cash to stay king for essential products

Businesses selling essential products including fuel and groceries will be legally required to accept cash payments under new requirements being designed by the federal government.
Amid a rapidly shifting payments landscape, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has also told the bosses of the big banks to start preparing for a full phase-out of cheques by September 2029, following a 90 per cent decline in their use in the past decade.
