Can Labor win the next election? It's harder but history says yes
Whoever takes over the leadership of a demoralised Labor Party may feel they face a tough task to win the next election, with big swings against the opposition turning many marginal seats into safer ones for the Coalition.
But the task is not impossible based on past electoral history. At both the 1993 and 2004 elections, oppositions went backwards and lost seats only to find themselves in power three years later.
