Labor and social services groups are calling on the Morrison government to delay or abandon a cut to unemployment benefits set to start on January 1, saying the winding back of support was coming too soon.
Labor's health spokesman, Chris Bowen, said large parts of the community were still hurting from the coronavirus-induced economic downturn, which he said would not "be over until the health crisis is over".
