Former treasurer Peter Costello says Australia's business leaders are failing in their advocacy for comprehensive tax reform, too often lobbying for their own benefit rather than the national interest.
Speaking to coincide with the release of cabinet papers documenting the development of the GST, Mr Costello said big business had not put forward meaningful reform proposals in recent years, instead acting as a lobby group on issues including corporate tax cuts.
