Bureaucrats get half their decisions to refuse FOI requests wrong
One in two decisions by federal government departments to block access to information are being overturned on review, as lawyers and transparency experts say the freedom of information system is broken.
Reviews by the independent Information Commissioner are taking years to decide, and the government has been accused of under-resourcing the Freedom of Information system and regularly failing to comply with lawful requests.
