Andrew Shearer to be new top spook

Senior government adviser Andrew Shearer will become Australia's spy chief after being appointed to head the Office of National Intelligence.

Mr Shearer will take up the position of director-general for a five-year term from December following the retirement of Nick Warner, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced.
