He may have been dubbed a show pony and the Colt from Kooyong, but Andrew Peacock proved over 40 years in public life that he was an original and highly effective minister and diplomat.

When Andrew Peacock was riding high in his ministerial career, a Labor frontbencher raised doubts about his administrative competence during parliamentary question time.

Dressed in a finely tailored blue suit that followed the contours of his tanned, fitness-first body, with a striped shirt and a stiff white collar – also the fashion of the times – Peacock rose to his feet theatrically.
