Anthony Albanese has promised a royal commission or some other inquiry into the nation’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and pledged to try to reform the federation to reduce the overlap of responsibilities between the states and the Commonwealth that has complicated the response and hamstrung productivity.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Tuesday, Mr Albanese said it was “beyond doubt that you will need an assessment” when asked whether he would establish a royal commission if he wins the May election.
