Bougainville Copper Ltd shares shot up 25 per cent yesterday following reports that rebels on Bougainville might support a re-opening of the giant Panguna copper mine.

Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA) leader Sam Kauona said the rebels would consider a deal to re-open the mine on Bougainville, provided independence from Papua New Guinea was on the agenda.
