Big super’s obsession with data centres comes with an energy warning
Ethical investor groups have warned that Australian superannuation giants chasing riches in the fast-growing but massively energy-hungry data centre industry could be putting their net zero emissions obligations at risk.
Data centres might offer enviable returns, but they are among the most energy-intensive of all assets, potentially delaying funds’ own transition strategies and raising the spectre of greenwashing.
