Vice chancellors feel the political heat

Australian universities say they are in crisis with the imposition of caps on international students making funding gaps worse. But Education Minister Jason Clare says his priority is getting more equity students into the system.

Australia’s leading universities have become financially addicted to mass numbers of international students to fund their budgets. Successive governments have celebrated that as a major export earner for the country and (more quietly) as a useful way of reducing their own spending.
