Truly clever country shouldn't get short-changed on schooling

The declining performance of Australian students in maths and science proves that sinking more money into schools doesn't improve results.

Over the past decade, Australian taxpayers have invested a record $473 billion in schooling. But despite all the money, we have gone backwards in delivering educational results; not only compared to other countries, but even against our own previous levels.

Let that sink in. It’s now beyond any doubt that policymakers’ obsession with the quantity – rather than quality – of spending has not paid educational dividends.
