The body that oversees $700 million in research grants is set for an overhaul amid growing criticism of how it operates, a lack of transparency and political interference.
Federal Education Minister Jason Clare will on Tuesday announce a review of the Australian Research Council and will also temporarily put on hold a three-yearly national assessment of the quality of research conducted in Australian universities.
