NSW unis in a sea of red, but worse to come

TEN universities in NSW raked in $3.4 billion in tuition fees from overseas students in 2023, but that wasn’t enough to stop eight of them from recording a loss.

Only the University of Sydney and University of Newcastle recorded surpluses. The rest were hammered by falling domestic enrolments and high staff costs that included historical underpayments.
