Jason Clare’s noble vision requires long-term investment

The pitch to increase the proportion of people from disadvantaged backgrounds with degrees is not without its difficulties.

There is no question that using education as a tool to pull people out of intergenerational poverty and disadvantage is a noble goal.

The vision set out in the interim report for the universities accord, released on Wednesday, articulates clearly that this is not just for the sake of individuals but for the future of the country. In pragmatic terms, we need people to fill jobs, especially in the professions.
