Health Minister Mark Butler has been called out for understating the size of the increase in health insurance premiums people will pay this year, with most customers facing a price rise of between 4 per cent and 5 per cent.

Butler announced last month the average cost of private health insurance would rise 3.73 per cent from April 1, about half of what some health funds lobbied for but the biggest annual hike since 2019.
