Creating a home environment and a sense of family at school may seem like a challenge, but it is one that Australian boarding schools have had to embrace, as more parents – and their children – demand more than a place to sleep.

And it means the role of boarding staff has had to change from head counters and bed counters to becoming far more engaged in the emotional and social development of their young charges.
