Berejiklian loses her nerve at construction’s expense
One reason the NSW premier has shut down big building sites is because the government didn’t want to look like it was giving itself special treatment.
Until now, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has been adamant that shutting down large-scale construction in Sydney would not help bring the pandemic under control.
Big building sites, including several owned by her government, were unlikely to become COVID-19 clusters because they have high safety standards and dedicated workforces, she said as recently as Wednesday.
