What was the point of Modi’s G20 summit?
Major-power splits in Europe and Asia call into question the G20’s ability to boost co-operation on global challenges.
Sumit GangulyThe annual meeting of the G20, which loosely brings together the world’s leading economies, concluded in New Delhi last weekend. When the group was established in 1999, it aimed to serve as a forum for the discussion and co-ordination around global economic growth and financial stability.
Its agenda has since expanded considerably, encompassing issues including trade, climate change and international migration.
