The AUKUS debate needs clear reasoning, not hot air

There is a vacuum in public awareness of our strategic circumstances. In these times of no war and no peace, that needs to be fixed.

The three-nation AUKUS agreement for Australia to acquire nuclear-powered submarines is a subject of profound seriousness for the nation’s future and regional security.

It therefore warrants sustained explanation and scrutiny – for which pejorative, personalised, attention-seeking and deliberatively divisive interventions are no substitute.
