Singapore warns US-China rift ‘appears insurmountable’

Tokyo | The widening rift between the world’s two biggest economies, the US and China, now looks in some regards to be irreconcilable, according to Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

The geopolitical situation has become more dangerous amid tensions between the two sides with the Taiwan Strait becoming the region’s “most dangerous flashpoint”, Mr Wong said in a speech to a forum in Tokyo. “We are moving closer to the edge,” he said, reflecting a sentiment that has become more prevalent among Asian leaders.
