Freedom of information delays a ‘cancer’ on access
Complaints about freedom of information requests are rising and government agencies are increasingly failing to meet the legislated time frame for decisions, resulting in access to documents being refused and more requests for review by the Information Commissioner.
The Department of Home Affairs, which receives the largest number of requests, has been singled out in several submissions to a Senate inquiry into the effectiveness of FOI laws.
